Keeping up the flow of Sandy Bridge additions, Dell has gone ahead dell vostro 1400 battery and upgraded another one of their product lines. After announcing updates to their mainstream Inspiron R laptops, Dell will also be tuning up the components under the lid of their business line of notebooks- the Vostro 3000 series.

According to a press release by Dell, the 13.3” Vostro 3350, the 14” Vostro 3450, the 15.6” Vostro 3550, VGP-BPS13 and the 17.3” Vostro 3750 have been outfitted with the latest Sandy Bridge processors. All the models will have access to Core i3, i5 and i7 Dual-Core processors, while the Vostro 3750 alone will be capable of running a Quad-Core i7.

As for the other specs, the whole lineup will be customizable with up to 8GB VGP-BPS13A/Q of RAM, a 128GB SSD, an optional backlit keyboard and SRS Premium Voice Pro. Seeing as the machines are running Sandy Bridge processors, they’ll have the regular Integrated Intel HD Graphics to go along with a 512MB Radeon HD6470 in the Vostro 3750, a 1GB Radeon HD6630 in the Vostro 3450 VGP-BPS13A/B and the Vostro 3550, and a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M in the Vostro 3750. As first reviews of the 3550 indicate, the systems with AMD graphics card come with a automatic graphics switching similar to Nvidia Optimus. However, due to some patents by Nvidia, the BACON (PowerXPress 4.0) called technique may have some disadvantages compared to Nvidia.

With regards to power, a 4 cell battery can be found in the 13.3” model VGP-BPS13/B and a 6 cell battery will come with the other versions. However, the laptops can also be outfitted with a larger battery; an 8 cell battery in the case of the Vostro 3350 and a 9 cell battery for the others.

With the updated Vostro specs, Dell appears to be targeting business consumers with mobility VGP-BPS13B/B and production in mind. An early review of the Vostro 3550 by PC World Australia seems to back that up, as the website was impressed with the laptop’s performance and managed to get over 5 hours of runtime with the 9 cell battery. Their only qualm appears to be below average viewing angles on the LED display.

Although Dell has managed to include Sandy Bridge processors VGP-BPS13B/Q and extended battery life in their Vostro 3000 lineup, the pricing hasn’t bumped from where it previously stood. The 13.3” Vostro should start at $599, while the 14” and 15.6” models begin at $499 and the 17.3” model splits the difference with a $549 price tag. All 4 machines should be available in Aberdeen Silver, Lucerne Red, and Brizbane Bronze colors VGP-BPS13A/S and will be available on March 22nd at batterymag.co.uk.

Samsung announces Series 2, 4, and 6 business laptops

Fresh off the news of the Samsung Series 9 laptop retailing for $1649, Samsung is announcing three new laptop lines. According to a press release by the company, the Series 2, Series 4, and Series 6 laptops feature anti-shock hard drives VGP-BPS13/Q and pressure-resistant casings to meet needs of businesses.

Starting things off is the budget oriented Series 2 laptop line. Aimed at the lower end of the business spectrum, the Series 2 laptops will come in two variants- a 12.5” model and a 14” model. As far as processors go, the 12.5” model will feature an Intel Celeron processor VGP-BPS9 and the 14” model will be running an Intel Core i3 Processor. The laptops will also come with 2GB of RAM (expandable to 4GB), up to 320GB of storage, integrated Intel GMA HD graphics and a 1366x768 pixel resolution on both screens.

Next in line, the Series 4 takes things up a notch with a wider range of more powerful Intel processors. The product line will come in the same 12.5” VGP-BPS8 and 14” variants; however, both are customizable with Intel Sandy Bridge Core i3/i5/i7 processors. The rest of the specs include up to 500GB of storage, Intel GMA HD (e.g. 3000) graphics, up to 6GB of RAM, the same 1366x768 pixel resolution as the Series 2, VGP-BPS9A/B and a 6 cell battery with up to 7 hours of life.

Last but not least is the highest end line introduced today, the Series 6. The more powerful model does without the 12.5” version and sticks to 14” VGP-BPS9/B and 15.6” models. Both editions will be customizable with Core i3 to i7 processors, up to 8GB of RAM, optional 128GB/256GB SSD, an optional 1600x900 pixel resolution display (regular is 1366x768 pixel) and also can include an option for an NVIDIA NVS 4200M. All three of the Series will come with Windows 7 as the operating system.

While the new systems might not be as attractive as the ultra-thin Series 9, they should make up for that in price VGP-BPS9/S and durability. The Series 2 and Series 4 are scheduled to be available in April and the Series 6 should come out in May. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t released any word about pricing for the laptops.
